Every day, the architect’s brain is always changing. Any design that I did yesterday actually this morning it did change. I go to bed, I wake up. And it’s a different design, it’s a different world, every single day is different.
So whatever I designed yesterday is nothing to do with what I’m gonna to design tomorrow. Everything above all. So that’s the beauty of my profession. Every single day is a new experience.Every single day is a new adventure. So what am I gonna be designing tomorrow. Who knows? And I am looking forward to it.

I get inspiration from tradition, from culture. It is not the same thing to design a building in London, well, it has own culture, it has own people, it has own tradition, than to design a building in Dubai, than to design a building in China.
Every building, every building relates to the place where it has been. So very very quickly, the inspiration comes from the place. The inspiration comes from the culture. And it’s slowly. It develops into a building responds to the streets, to the city, to the heights that the government gives you. It’s slowly everything comes up together. But after that, after you respond to the culture and all of those items, there is an element of talent, which is what you need to have. Architects need to have the talent to have a vision, to make sure that your building is something special, and are not something that anybody could have designed.

It is a repsonsibility. You, me, everybody, my grandmother, my father, your uncle, your sons, everybody has to be responsible. We have to make the world better. I want to be in this planet for thousands of years. But if we continue designning the same way that we are designning, that may change the planet. The life on the planet is going to get smaller and smaller and smaller. It is a responsibility, not just professional responsibility, it’s a moral responsibility, it’s a hard responsibility for everybody.

Wallpaper is a fantastic material because it’s a very cost-effective way to when you have a white room, wrap it around on and in a second, it changes. It makes you feel happy. It makes you feel calm. It makes you feel excited. It can bring colors within seconds. So wallpaper is a very quick and reasonably priced way to actually change a room.

The projects, I can tell you about the projects we have in China right now. We have projects in Beijing, Shenyang, Xian, many different cities. And we use in such a way that I don’t want the wallpaper to overwhelm you. I don’t want it to be the center of attraction. I want put a wallpaper that calms you down. I want to put a wallpaper when you come and you sit down with your wife and talk to your children, the wallpaper is giving you hug. It gives you baobao as I call it. It gives you hug and makes you welcome. It is the wallpaper that plays with the light. It’s the wallpaper that makes you feel calm because that’s what you want to do when you come to your family. Feel calm. Wallpaper for me is not the one that ah! You know I am here. You know. Its aim is to calm you down. And that’s what I offer to my Chinese clients. Different way. You see if I do a KTV, KTV you know is opposite, bang, you know fun. But when I you do a residential, I always go wallpaper that calms you down.

Of course I do. I use it many times before.
One of the reasons that I like this particular company is because it takes risk. I like companies don’t say that well, China like this and I give you this. Spain like this, I give you this. Germany like this and I give you this. No. They take risks. They hire professional, talented architects, designers. It’s not just themselves designing the wallpaper. They go away and they hire people that like this, Zaha Hadid, for example. The talented people who think in a different way. They said you give me your feeling because you understand people. Architects, we design all over the world. I know what you like, I know what they like. We have a different vision of what we like. And what I like about this company again is that they hire us to design for you, to give us our knowledge, our feeling, and to try to be better.

No.1, the first thing is, when you go to, if you go to a shop, try to take the wallpaper, and take it outside of the shop. Open the book, take it outside. There is not the same thing. The light that you have in a shop and that the light you have outside. In the shop, you will look in one way. When you are outside of the shop, you will look another. If you know the wallpaper that you are buying, and you have the opportunity to go to a hotel.Or go to a friend’s house who actually use the same wallpaper. Have a look. Because what you see is more of a sample, is not what you see when you go big size. Size is different. It has the same thing with the stones. It has the same thing with the plant. Size changes a thing. So from a catalogue, size changes. And always touch. You see, you offer me a book before and the first thing I did was to touch. The second thing I did is to put my eye level and I look. I look at contrast, I look how it shines. I took it next to the window, that light is not the same as inside. So always test it. And then one something that is very important, it’s like a bottle of water. It’s like read, read what it says in there. Understand your product, understand that it has to be a sustainable product. Understand that it’s a product that has been done with natural materials. Read what it says and ask questions that’s what I do.

This is like everything in life. I mentioned before, you always have to read. The small words says in every bottle. You have to read the small words that says in the back of catalogue. Questioning. Don’t just believe. Secondly, I have to get a little bit serious about these questions because I only use materials that have been used with renewable materials, meaning if you cut a tree, plant a tree. If you take a plant out, put another plant back. Use materials that help the world to be sustainable. Renew, renew the world. You cut, you put it back. There are many companies, this company, that we are talking about today,it’s fantastic, Marburg. It’s a fantastic company because they actually do have materials and wallpaper that are 100% renewable, 100% sustainable. Always look at those materials that can help, please, to save the world. Save the planet. you come to Picazo. You are not sustainable. Byebye. I won’t use you.
